I’ve been very quiet haven’t I?! It’s been cold here lately, so I’ve been rugged up and reading trashy romance novels mostly LOL
I have been a good girl in one respect though, I’ve joined a gym!! Well, the women’s fitness centre Contours. I haven’t exercised regularly since I was in high school, ummm that’s about 18 years ago I think. Since I’ve been home caring for mum (almost 8 years now) I’ve gradually piled on the weight. It’s not something you notice at first, as it happens so slowly. One minute you think you’re healthy and fit, the next minute you’re wondering where your waist went!! Besides losing weight and getting fit, I really wanted to join to increase my strength, because if mum fell, it would then be easier for me to help her. Also, diabetes runs in my dad’s side of the family, my brother has it, as well as alot of aunts, uncles and cousins, and if I keep gaining weight it’s going to put me straight into the high risk range for it.
I’d always felt intimidated when considering joining a gym and working out, so taking that first step and joining was a huge nerve-wracking leap. Once I got inside, filled out the forms and spoke to the people there I was fine, at least until the first workout! LOL At Contours the first three workouts are supervised. The trainers go around with you showing you how the machines work, and working out what weights to start you on. You alternate from a machine to a platform that you jog on, etc, which keeps your heart-rate up where you’re burning fat.
I was fine during the first workout, well, except for being completely out of breath and sore LOL About five minutes after I stopped though, I felt like the blood had drained from my head and I was about to pass out or throw up. It turned out that, stupidly, I hadn’t eaten anything at all since lunch, about 6 hours previously!! I was also dehydrated, because I don’t drink alot of water during the day. So after lying down and having a protein shake, I was feeling reasonably human again. After that, I have made sure to drink water regularly throughout the day, and make sure I have a snack like a handful of almonds mid afternoon. So if you’re thinking of doing any exercise, don’t forget to eat and drink!! It had to be one of the most horrible feeling’s I’ve ever gone through.
I’ve now finished my first three workouts, so just rock up and join in from now on instead of booking an appointment. You get a jazzy lil plastic card with a barcode on it that you scan when you go in, so it’s all quickly recorded straight onto their computer, no need for signing in and wasting time before starting.
One thing I have noticed, is that when you are coming or going, if you pass another woman with a Contours bag (you get one when you join) you automatically smile and say hello. It’s so friendly and easy-going.
Well, that’s what I’ve been up to! I promise not to forget the beads though!
Hope you’re all well!

There’s been alot of beady ladies dabbling in glass fusing lately. I’ve wanted to have a go for a longgggg time, but never got around to getting any of the supplies. So, seeing all these ladies with their cabs prompted me into buying a beginner’s kit of fusing goodies.
I think one of the things that put me off trying fusing for so long was the actual cutting of the glass LOL I don’t know why but it always made me uneasy to try. I do have a healthy respect for glass, and the damage it can do to you. Suprisingly, it was really easy! The noise that the scorer makes when running along the glass is a little like nails down a blackboard though. It’s amazing how that little score line makes the glass snap apart so cleanly and easily. I sat the glass on one of those scrapbook rubber cutting boards while scoring it, and I think the rubber really helped to grip the glass and keep it steady and in place.
So now I have five little matching stacks of glass sitting aside, waiting for the glue to dry. Just a simple geometric design with white, transparent blue, and a pretty opaque celadon green.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to get them in the kiln tomorrow. I’ve downloaded the fusing and annealing details from the glass manufacturers website, so have that all ready.
I can’t wait to show you how they turn out! This will be wonderful to do when it’s too hot to torch in summer.
Woohoo! more glass to play with!!! ![]()

Wow! Can you believe it’s already the middle of May!! Time seems to be flying past now, I don’t even notice it anymore.
Why is it that the older we get the shorter the years get? The day’s just seem to blur into each other. I suppose it also doesn’t help that I’m at home full time, there’s no real marking of the days and months. The only thing that really shows the days, are my tv shows that I cannot miss! Ohhhh, by the way, any Doctor Who fans out there? The Planet of the Dead will be showing at 7.30pm, 31st May on the ABC. That’s the first of the final four David Tennant episodes.
Speaking of David Tennant, did anyone see him in Casanova? I want to know whose idea it was to use him and Peter O’Toole as the one character… they just didn’t mesh, totally different acting styles. I didn’t find it believable that Peter O’Toole was Casanova in old age. It would of been much better if they’d aged David Tennant like they have on a couple of DW episodes. Not to mention Peter O’Toole just seemed to come across as a creepy old guy rather than an aged lothario LOL
Ok, enough rambling from me. Hope you’re all well!
Toodles

Last week I slumped some beads down into cabochons. I’ve had them sitting here on my desk waiting to be photograph since LOL
Thank goodness the sun came out today, so I spent some time taking the piccies and warming up in the afternoon sun. It’s lovely out there at the moment.
Anywhooooooooo, they’re all now listed on the site. Here’s a sneek peek, group shot of them.
